Woman Charged with Alleged Driving Under the Influence

On July 24th, Deputy Derek Sexton, with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, along with Deputies Tyler Johnson and Dalton Walden responded to assist Park Rangers Gary Shereffer and Seth Williams in Winfield on a possible DUI.  Upon arrival, they spoke with the driver, identified as Karla Vanover, and rangers on the scene.  Rangers Shereffer and Williams stopped her due to speeding and weaving on the roadway.  Vanover’s speech was slurred, slow, and she seemed to be confused and disoriented.  She was given sobriety tasks and failed both.  Vanover was in possession of two large bottles of Listerine which contained approximately 27% alcohol according to the label.  There were multiple ounces, approximately 1/3 of the bottle, gone from the only bottle that was open and there was a lipstick print on the opening of the bottle.  Vanover was transported to the Big South Fork Medical Center for a blood draw, which she consented to after being advised of her rights regarding the test.  She was charged with Driving Under the Influence and transported to the Scott County Justice Center for booking.
