On July 24th, Deputy Derek Sexton, with the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a Violation of Light Law. When speaking with the driver, identified as Edward Hawkins, Officer Sexton noticed a piece of plastic in his mouth. When asked what it was Hawkins denied he had anything. Officer Sexton asked Hawkins to exit the vehicle and told him to spit it out and he complied. It was a baggy containing approximately one gram of a crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine. Hawkins was arrested and charged with Possession of a Schedule II Drug. He was transported to the Scott County Justice Center for booking.
