Mr. James Herman Bilbrey, age 80, departed this life on Sunday, August 13, 2017, at Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, TN. Born January 9, 1937, he was the son of the late Herman and Elva Mays Bilbrey. Jim was a lifelong resident of Oneida, Tennessee, a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church in Oneida. He was a graduate of the Oneida High School, class of 1955. He attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky and ETSU until his service in the U.S. Army. He was a 30 year employee of Tibbals Flooring Company/Hartco, until his retirement. Jim fiercely loved his family and became especially fond and proud of his grandchildren, he will be remembered for his kindness, and his pervasive and unique sense of humor. He loved local history and genealogy and he believed that most things can be fixed with duct tape and WD40. As a philosopher of life, Jim often encouraged his family by saying “That’s no hill for a climber.”
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by a very special aunt: Della Mays Strunk and stepson; John Clark.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Betty Kaye Ellis Bilbrey of Oneida, daughter and son-in-law: Heather Bilbrey McLaughlin and George of Gastonia, North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Brett Bilbrey and Jennifer of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren: Hannah McLaughlin, Carter McLaughlin, Chloe Bilbrey, Jonah Bilbrey and Davin Clark; many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, August 17, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home in Oneida with Bro. Phillip Kazee officiating. Music will be provided by John Damron and Brett Bilbrey. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday morning, August 18, 2017, in the Hazel Valley Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
