Local Theatre Hosting Knoxville Theatre Group

 

            Huntsville, TN (2012-02-01) On Saturday, the Word Players, a theatre group from Knoxville, will present a traveling production about the many events surrounding the civil rights movement in America.

            Walk, Don’t Ride:  A Celebration of the Fight for Equality, a play by Peter Manos, will be presented on Saturday by the Word Players, a not-for-profit theatre group from Knoxville.   The play, which is a presentation of drama and songs depicting events that helped shape American freedom, will be held in the historic Scott County Courthouse in Huntsville.  The play will include theatrical adaptations of the non-violent protests of African Americans trying to gain equality in a white dominated world.  Scenes will include:  The Montgomery Bus Boycott, the Nashville Lunch Counter Sit-Ins, and the Greyhound / Trailways Freedom Rides.

            The Word Players is a nonprofit theatre group made up of professional actors from Knoxville, Tennessee, whose mission is to provide Christian based performances to Knoxville and surrounding communities.

            The show will begin a 7:00 p.m. in the upstairs courtroom theatre of the Scott County Courthouse.  The box office will open at 6:15 p.m.  Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and are available at the door.
