Jacksboro Man Pleads Guilty To Escape

Huntsville, TN (2011-12-05) A Jacksboro man that fled from authorities while getting medical treatment at a local hospital has pleaded guilty to escape.

Daryl Roland Overbay, 41, of Jacksboro, accepted a plea agreement in Scott County Criminal Court on Monday, pleading guilty to the initiating the process of the manufacture of methamphetamine and escape.  Overbay, who was being held in the Scott County Jail on felony drug charges, fled on foot from St. Mary’s Medical Center of Scott County in October.  Overbay had reportedly been taken to the facility for treatment of the possible ingestion of drugs.

Overbay received an eight year sentence on the meth making charges, along with another year for the escape.  The charges were ordered to be served consecutive to each other and in addition to a prior conviction in Campbell County, making a total effective sentence of 15 years.

Per the agreement, Overbay submitted to a violation on a prior charge in Campbell County, and was ordered to serve 90 days in jail.  He was also ordered to make restitution to the Scott County Sheriff’s Department Drug Fund in the amount of $1,000; and pay a $2,000 fine.  After completing his split confinement, Overbay will be placed on supervised probation for 9 years, which will begin upon completion of probation in the Campbell County case.

On October 11, 2011, Overbay ran from authorities while being treated at the local hospital.  He was recaptured about an hour later within 200 yards of the facility.
