Heritage Festival Saturday At Scott
County Museum

(2011-09-16) The 5th Annual Scott County Heritage Festival will
be held this weekend at the Scott County Museum
in Huntsville. The event is free to the public.
On
Saturday, the students of Scott High School welcome everyone to their 5th
Annual Heritage Festival, a celebration of the rich cultural history of Scott County. From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., visitors will
get a unique opportunity to relive the history of our community through a
series of live interpretive demonstrations and reenactments, including horse
shoeing, yarn spinning, hatchet throwing, flint knapping, frontier characters,
sorghum making, native American pow wow, civil war
reenactment, soap making, and more. Abe
Lincoln is also scheduled to make a visit.
Attendees will have the chance to participate in a variety of games and
activities, and plenty of food will be available on site.
The
Scott High School Journalism Class will be taking old time photographs.
At
the core of our region’s history is bluegrass and gospel music, which told the
stories of mountain life. Scheduled to
perform Saturday are: The Hancock
Family, Journeymen, Barefoot Movement, the Brimstone Boys, and the Scott High
School Bluegrass Band.
New
to this year’s festival will be a live auction of goods at 5:00 p.m. Saturday
night.
In
addition to the festival activities, attendees will also get a chance to see
the Scott County
Museum, the U.S.S.
Tennessee Museum
and the new Discovery Center, which are all located on the campus of Scott High
School.
Admission
to the festival is free.
