TN Board of Medical Examiners Considers Reinstating Perry’s License

Nashville, TN (2011-08-24) Nearly two years after suspending the license of a local physician, the State of Tennessee has tentatively agreed to reinstate his credentials provided he seeks treatment for sexual addiction.

On August 2, 2011, the Tennessee Board of Examiners filed a final order in the two-year old case against Oneida physician Larry E. Perry, tentatively agreeing to permit him to practice medicine again, provided he completes court-ordered and approved counseling for sexual addiction and boundary issues.

In the final order, issued by Neal S. Beckford, Chairman of the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners, the panel upheld the suspension of Perry’s license, but agreed to consider lifting the suspension, if he completes an evaluation and treatment for sexual addiction and boundaries issues at a treatment center approved by the Board’s Medical Director.  Furthermore, the State ordered Perry to pay the cost of his prosecution, up to a maximum of $25,000.

While the Board agreed to consider lifting the suspension, it must vote again on the issue before Perry’s license would be reinstated.

In the seven page order, the Board of Medical Examiners adjured that Perry had engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with multiple female patients over a number of years.  It further cited two specific cases, where Perry, they claim, had assaulted and coerced the victims into having inappropriate sexual contact, including oral sex, groping, and fondling.
