Lay and Brooks Running For Mayor; Seven In Oneida Aldermen Race

Huntsville, TN (2011-08-18) With the qualifying deadline past, incumbent Mayor Jack E. Lay and Oneida businessman Harold Brooks have returned petitions to run for Mayor of Oneida in November.  Seven persons have tossed their names into contention for the four-member city council race.

According to Administrator of Elections Gabe Lowe, four-term incumbent Mayor Jack E. Lay and businessman Harold Brooks were the only two persons that picked up and returned qualifying petitions for the office of Mayor for the November 5, 2011 Town of Oneida Municipal Election.  In 2007, Brooks was Lay’s lone challenger, losing the race to the then three-term incumbent, 817 to 190.

A total of seven persons will be vying for a seat on the Oneida City Council, including incumbent Aldermen Cecil Anderson, David Lowe and Sharon Miller.  Challengers will include Ronnie “Ron” Blevins, Randy Cooper, Linda Lay, and Hillard Mattie.

Qualified candidates will have until 12:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011 to withdraw.

Early Voting for the Town of Oneida Municipal Election will be held October 17, 2011 through October 31, 2011.
