STAND Drug Take Back Event Saturday

Oneida, TN (2011-07-19) Schools Together Allowing No Drugs (STAND), along with local law enforcement agencies, will host its fourth prescription and over-the-counter drug take-back event Saturday at its offices in Oneida.

According to Executive Director Trent Coffey, the STAND program will hold it’s fourth-ever drug-take program at his offices on Sheppard Road in Oneida on Saturday, July 23, 2011 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. During the event, local citizens may bring all expired and unused prescription and over-the-counter medications for proper disposal.

“The purpose of the event is three-fold,” stated Program Coordinator Dale Owens. “First, we want to limit the availability of prescription drugs to those they are not prescribed for,” he added. “By disposing of these drugs properly, it will eliminate the potential for harmful drugs getting into the local water supply. Furthermore, if the drugs are not in the home, thieves have less of a reason to burglarize the house,” he concluded.

In the first events, the program collected over 50 pounds of unused and expired medications.
