Winfield Commissions Special Census

 

            Winfield, TN (2011-05-10) The Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Winfield have commissioned a special census.  The citizens of the Town will be recounted by the end of the month.

            Meeting in regular session on Tuesday night, the Winfield Mayor and Board of Aldermen voted 3-0 with Aldermen Harold Chambers and Verscle (Bert) Burchfield absent, to commission a special census of the Town’s residents.  Earlier this year, the U.S. Census Bureau released its official 2010 count of all states, counties and municipalities in the United States.  According to federal statistics, as of April 2010, the Town of Winfield had 967 residents; a 6.1% increase over the last decade.  In comparison, the Town of Huntsville experienced a 27.2% increase in the last ten years, while Oneida posted a 3.8% increase.

            Representatives from the Town will start canvassing the residences in the coming days.  The special census should be completed by the end of the month.
