Hall Offered Three-Year Contract

Huntsville, TN (2011-05-09) The Scott County Board of Education has negotiated a three-year contract with Scott High School Principal and Director-elect Bill Hall.  The contract must be ratified by the School Board at its regular monthly meeting on Thursday night.

Meeting in a special called work session Monday evening in Huntsville, the Scott County Board of Education and Director-elect Bill Hall ironed-out the terms of his employment contract.  Per the agreement, Hall will receive a base salary of $80,000 a year.  In addition, the school district will pick up the cost of his family health and dental insurance, an additional benefit of about $7,000 a year.

During the course of Monday night’s work session, the body considered several salary schedules; ranging from a high of $90,000 to a low of $77,000.  Hall sought a base salary of $82,000 and health and dental insurance coverage.  Outgoing Director Sharon Wilson’s base salary was $75,000 a year, which reportedly ranked in the lower ten percent of salaries of any Director in the state.  Having insurance benefits through her spouse, Wilson did not have compensated health insurance coverage from the County.

While the initial term of the proposed contact is three years, the agreement included a one-year automatic renewal.  It also included language that would terminate it should the State Legislature reinstate an elected Superintendent position and eliminate the appointed Director’s role.

While the body negotiated the terms of the contract, it must still be ratified at its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, May 12, 2011.  Hall must also agree to the final draft of the contract.

If the contract is signed, Hall will officially assume his new duties on July 1, 2011; however, he’s expected to migrate to the central office prior to the close of the current fiscal year (June 30).

Wilson’s retirement will become effective June 30, 2011.  The School Board has not named Hall’s replacement at Scott High.
