Big Creek Road Closed In BSF

Oneida, TN (2011-04-28) A landslide in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area has forced the closure of Big Creek Road.

According to Superintendent Niki S. Nicholas, vehicular traffic will be temporarily prohibited on Big Creek Road in McCreary County until contractors can repair damage to the roadbed caused by a landslide. The landslide, stated park officials, has rendered the road unsafe for use.

The park is working with the McCreary County Water District to repair the road. A contract with the water company has been awarded and construction should begin on Thursday, April 28, 2011, weather permitting.

Road repairs are expected to take about a week.
