More Than 150 Brave Inclement Weather To Clean Up Scott County

 

            Huntsville, TN (2011-04-20) Despite inclement weather, more than 150 people turned out last Saturday to make a difference in their community by participating in the annual Scott County countywide cleanup.  For there effort, several people walked away with an array of prizes, including cash and gifts from many local businesses.

            According to Shonda Crabtree, coordinator for the Vivian Smith—Scott County Looks Good To Me countywide cleanup, a total of 158 registered volunteers and countless others came out to improve the appearance of Scott County by picking up roadside litter last Saturday.  The coordinated effort resulted in more than 500 bags of trash and a variety of other items, including furniture and old appliances being removed from area roads.

            For their efforts, participants were eligible for a variety of prizes, including cash and gifts donated by area businesses.  Harrison Reed, who volunteered in the Pine Hill community, walked away with the grand prize, a Blu-Ray player.  Tonya Duncan, who helped out in West Oneida, picked up a $100 cash prize.  Site registration winners included:  Fairview – Devin Day; Robbins – Courtney Daniels; Huntsville – Dustin Laxton; Helenwood – Jerome Crabtree; Pine Hill – Tony Terry; Winfield – Dawson Strunk; and Burchfield – Sydney Terry.  Each winner received a $30 gift card from Scott County.

            Winners of a variety of gifts donated by local business included: Alex Jeffers, Andrew Collins, Ashley Stanley, Aubrie Terry, Barbe Riesden, Breanna Terry, Brianna Blount, Carol Chambers, Chris Wilson, Dalton Strunk, Diane Smith, Donna Daniels, Dustin Parks, Elbie Blount, Estell Reed, Gavin Webb, Gussy Stanley, Jacob Crabtree, Jason Watson, Jody Morrow, John Webb, Joshua Gochenour, Korey Terry, Laurel Blount, Lorene Chitwood, Mark Lloyd, Mathew Beets, Michael Watson, OE Hammock, Rachel Storey, Randy Wunderlin, Ronnie Strunk, Savannah Terry, T.J. Posey, and

Wesley Wunderlin.

            Contributors to the event included:  27 Supply, Brimestone Recreation, Bryant’s Jewelry, Cell Depot, El Rey Mexican Restaurant, First National Bank, Goody’s, Huntsville Mayor George Potter, Lay Family Furniture, Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken, Lumber King, Oneida Book & Gift Store, Plateau Drugs, Potters Ace Hardware, S.T.A.N.D. (Schools Together Allowing No Drugs), and Young’s Jewelry.  Four Oaks Funeral Home of Huntsville provided a tent for the cookout.
