Winfield Home Destroyed By Fire
Winfield, TN (2011-04-06) A mid-morning blaze
totally destroyed a two-story residential dwelling in Winfield Wednesday
morning.
A two-story
residential dwelling on Trammell
Cemetery Road in Winfield was completely destroyed
Wednesday morning by a wind-fanned blaze that quickly engulfed the wooden
structure. According to reports from the
scene, the homeowners, identified as Joey and Linda Trammell, were reportedly
awakened around 7:30 a.m. by crackling sounds coming from a second story
bathroom, which was adjacent to the couple’s bedroom. Miraculously, the pair escaped the fire,
which was discovered even before smoke detectors in the home could activate. The family reportedly salvaged a few personal
belongings; however, most items were destroyed in the blaze.
The Winfield Fire Department, along
with the Pine Knot and Oneida Fire Departments, battled the raging blaze for
more than an hour before bringing it under control. Firefighter’s efforts were hampered by the
lack of available water, as the nearest hydrant to the blaze was nearly two
miles away. Although firefighters utilized three tankers
to shuttle water to the scene, it just wasn’t enough to keep up with the
intense flames.
“It’s one of the hottest, most
intense fires I’ve experienced in years,” commented one long time firefighter.
