Girl Scouts Launch Free Mobile App

Knoxville, TN (2011-03-02) If you want to know where you can get your hands on a box of Thin Mints, the answer now lies in your smartphone. Yes, ‘there’s an app for that!’

Girl Scout Cookie lovers can find cookie sales nearby using a free application on their smartphones. The new Cookie Locator mobile app is part of a national pilot program and the Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians is taking part.

The app is available in the iPhone App Store and Android Market Place. There is also a mobile website at http://mobile.littlebrownie.com. Smartphone users can also download the app free by simply calling **GSCOOKIES (**472665437). Data and messaging rates may apply.

“The response has been great,” said Booth Kammann, CEO of the Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians. “Now, even if a customer doesn’t personally know a Girl Scout to purchase from, or if they want more cookies than they originally ordered, they’ll know exactly where to go and when the booths will be open.”

Girl Scout Cookie Booth Sales began on Friday evening and will continue for the next four weeks.

The application, which is available for iPhones, iPod Touch and Android OS phones, uses either GPS or manually entered zip codes, cities or states to find cookie booths near the customer. The app will conveniently map those locations and add the sale information to the calendar. In addition to locating the booths, customers can learn about their favorite cookies, including nutritional value and ingredients.

Cookie lovers can take a fun, interactive quiz to learn their “cookie personalities” as well. Users will be able to share sale locations, cookie information and their cookie personalities with friends on Facebook, Twitter and via email. “The app is one more way that the Girl Scout Cookie Program teaches girls important business, leadership and technology skills,” said Kammann.
