ID Board Honors Local Cancer Clinic

Huntsville, TN (2011-03-01) The Scott County Industrial Development Board recently recognized the local cancer clinic for its contribution to the community.

On Tuesday, February 22, 2011, Jim Swann (Chairman) from the Industrial Development Board of Scott County along with John Seale (Vice-Chairman), Greg Jeffers (Treasurer), and County Mayor Jeff Tibbals, presented Tracey Stansberry, Board Certified Advanced Practice Oncology Nurse with TN Plateau Oncology, with a Resolution of Appreciation. The Industrial Development Board adopted the Resolution to applaud the amazing work the Huntsville Cancer Clinic daily contributes to Scott County.

In 2003, Scott County along with surrounding counties realized the dream of having a local state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility with the opening of the Huntsville Cancer Clinic. The clinic was established as a joint community project between Tracey Stansberry, The Industrial Development Board of Scott County, Scott County Government, Huntsville Mayor and Alderman, as well as many concerned citizens.  This partnership, stated Chairman Swann, demonstrates that the Industrial Development Board works to not only find jobs but to improve the health and wellness of Scott County citizens.

Practicing with oncologist Dr. Dirk Davidson, the Cancer Clinic’s mission is to meet the needs of cancer and hematology patients in Scott County as well as the surrounding vicinity.  In addition to providing chemotherapy services the clinic provides supportive care, diagnostics, treatment for blood disorders and other diseases requiring infusion therapy.

The clinic is staffed Monday through Thursday (with Friday’s by appointment only) and provides 24 –hour call -in coverage. Since its opening in 2003, it is estimated that the clinic has saved patients in the region approximately 1.5 million miles of travel to outlying treatment facilities.
