Bull Creek Man Rescued From Rising Flood Waters

Huntsville, TN (2011-02-28) A Scott County man was pulled from the roaring waters of Bull Creek Monday afternoon, after the man’s vehicle was swept downstream by rapidly rising flood waters.

Emergency responders from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, the East 63 Volunteer Fire Department and the Scott County Rescue Squad, along with a crew from the Scott County Road Department, rescued an unidentified resident of the Bull Creek community Monday afternoon, pulling the victim from a flooded section of Bull Creek.

Around 3:51 p.m. Monday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Department, the East 63 Fire Department and the Scott County Rescue Squad responded to the Bull Creek community to assist a motorist, who had been trapped in his vehicle by the extremely high, fast flowing waters of Bull Creek.  Due to debris and poor road conditions caused by flooding in the area, rescuers were initially unable to reach the victim.  After a crew from the Scott County Road Department responded and cleared the path for emergency responders, rescuers reached the victim.

A trio of responders tethered by a rescue rope braved the waters to pull the victim from the hood of his truck.  The Rescue Squad also deployed its rescue boat to the scene.

While the incident at Bull Creek was the only report of a stranded motorist in the area, numerous instances of flooded roadways were reported.  Minor to moderate flooding was prevalent across the county; however, the southern tip of Scott County bore the brunt of the heaviest rain.  While an average of 2.0” – 3.0” of rain was reported across the county, a swath across the southern section of Scott County reportedly received between 3.5” and 4.0” in a short period of time.

The Scott County Road Department reported the most extensive flooding in the Brimstone area, where the waters breached the roadway in several locations.  Widespread flooding was also reported in the Wolf Creek area of Robbins and the O and W community.
