Penguin Plunge March 5th At Oneida City Park

Huntsville, TN (2011-02-22) CASA of the Tennessee Heartland’s Scott County Program is getting heated up for the coldest fundraiser in the county, the 5th Annual Penguin Plunge to benefit the CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates.

The Scott County Steering Committee has begun preparation for “March of the Penguins”, this year’s theme for CASA’s 5th Annual Penguin Plunge.  Planned for Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Oneida City Park, the annual event was created to bring awareness to the mission of Court Appointed Special Advocates and raise money for the organization.

Registration for the event will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.  An awards ceremony, recognizing contributors and participants, will be held at 12:45 p.m.  Immediately following, event participants, AKA human penguins, will don bathing suits or costumes and plunge into the icy cold waters of the Oneida City Park Lake.

Before plunging, penguins must solicit donations from family, friends and local businesses.   The minimum amount to participate in the plunge is $35 (unless you are a student and the price is $25), but the more one raises the better opportunity they have to win incentive prizes. Creativity awards will be given in a number of categories as well.

Alternately, for a nomination fee of $50, individuals can nominate someone else to plunge for them.  In this case, the nominated individual may choose to plunge or to purchase “plunger insurance” at the cost of $50.  This insurance policy allows the plunger the option of not plunging and becoming a member of the “Chicken Coop.”

All are welcome to participate in this fundraising event.  So, gather your friends, family, colleagues and anyone who is tough enough to brave winter waters to support the local CASA program.  Of course, landlubbers are welcome and encouraged to come and cheer their chilly friends on.

Funds raised from the event will allow CASA to continue providing top quality advocacy to the abused and neglected children of our community.

For Penguin Pledge forms, to make a nomination, or for additional information, call the Scott County CASA office at (423) 663-8943 or (423) 319-7883.
