Huntsville, TN (2011-02-22) The Scott County Commission honored a number of middle school basketball teams Tuesday night, celebrating a year of unprecedented success for area teams.

Five middle school basketball teams from Scott County earned places in the TMSAA East Tennessee Sectionals this year, a record number of participants. Three teams earned TMSAA Area Tournament Championships as well.

In Class A, the Fairview Rebels, after finishing second in the County tournament, claimed the TMSAA Area II Tournament Championship, eventually falling in the third round of the State finals. Also in Class A, the Robbins Lady Hawks, after taking third place in the Area II Tournament, reached the second round of the state sectional before seeing their season come to an end, while the Winfield Lady Bobcats captured their first Area II Class A title, the first championship at any level for the Lady Bobcats since 1971, before also bowing out in the second round in the state sectionals.

In Class AA, the Oneida Lady Indians rode a third place Area II Tournament finish to reach the third round of the State sectionals, while the Huntsville Bears clinched the Class AA Area II title, following that up with a second round exit from the State level.

The Commission, in concert with the community, congratulated all the local teams on their success in the 2010-2011 season.
