Donate Blood~Save Lives!

Knoxville, TN (2011-02-17) Are you a member of Medic Regional Blood Center? You are if you have donated blood within the last year.  Being a member of Medic protects not only donors but their IRS dependents too.  One blood donation a year exempts donors (and IRS dependents) from paying blood collection or processing fees anywhere in the U.S. if a transfusion is needed.   This benefit can same a family thousands of dollars and only costs one blood donation each year.  However, each additional donation adds another year’s credit towards the membership.  Donors can choose to keep those credits or give them away to someone who might not be able to donate blood.  Become a member of Medic by stopping by any blood drive and simply donating a pint of blood.

Donors are always welcome at Medic’s two donor centers:  1601 Ailor Avenue and 11000 Kingston Pike/Farragut.   Donors can also make donations at community blood drives.  The next events in Scott County will be held on Monday, February 28, 2011 at St. Mary’s Medical Center of Scott County and Tuesday, March 1, 2011 inside Room 105 at the Scott County Campus of Roane State Community College.  Both collection events will be held between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old weighing 120 pounds with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and have positive identification.

Donors will also receive a free t-shirt and a cholesterol evaluation (no fasting required).
