Fire Department’s Quick Response Saves Helenwood Home
Helenwood,
TN (2011-02-10) The quick response of local
firefighters has been credited with saving a Helenwood
home.
At
approximately 3:40 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the Mid-County Fire Department
was dispatched to the home of Gary McGuire at 1899 Helenwood Loop Road. When firefighters arrived, the flames had
reportedly just broached the roofline at the rear of the two-story
dwelling. Firefighters quickly attacked
the fire from outside the structure and then entered the home, where they
ascended to the second story and the source of the flames. Damage to the home was largely limited to a
second story bathroom, where the fire reportedly started.
Despite
the hour of the fire, the Mid-County
Fire Department, under
the direction of Chief Wayne Reed, converged on the scene with four trucks and
a dozen firefighters. The Oneida Fire
Department also provided tanker support for the operation. Huntsville Fire and Rescue was also standing
by to assist; however, since the fire was quickly brought under control, the
department’s help was not needed.
Thursday’s
fire was the third residential structure fire of the week. On Monday, fire destroyed a two-story
dwelling on Main Street
in Oneida. On Tuesday, flames totally consumed a
single-story family home in the Pine Hill community.
