County Teachers of the Year Recognized

 

            Huntsville, TN (2011-02-10) The Scott County School System honored the best of its teachers Thursday night, bestowing Teacher of the Year honors on eleven seasoned instructors.

            At the regularly scheduled meeting of the Scott County Board of Education Thursday night, Director Sharon Wilson and the members of the Board recognized the district’s top teachers for the 2011-2012 school year.  Instructors receiving individual school level recognition were:  In the Pre-K to 4th grade category, Melanie Garrett, Burchfield Elementary; Teresa Boshears, Fairview Elementary; Nancy Stringer, Huntsville Elementary; Jill Griffith, Robbins Elementary; and Kim King, Winfield Elementary.  In the 5th to 8th grade category:  Tammie Henry, Burchfield Elementary; Marsha Eads Sharp, Fairview Elementary; Toney Brawner, Huntsville Middle; April Pendergrass, Robbins Elementary; and Susan Dunlap, Winfield Elementary.  At the high school, Donna Kenney was chosen to represent the 9th to 12th grade.

            From those attaining individual school honors, three were named District Teachers of Year.  Nancy Stringer of Huntsville was chosen in the Pre-K to 4th grade category, while Marsha Eads Sharp of Fairview was selected in the middle school level.  Donna Kenney was again the district-wide choice at the high school.

            District teachers of the year received: $150 cash and a plague from the Scott County Board of Education; a $50 savings bond from each Citizens First Bank, First National Bank and First Trust and Savings Bank; a one year subscription to both the Independent Herald and the Scott County News; $25 gift card and premium bag from Plateau Electric Cooperative; Caller ID service from Highland Telephone Cooperative, a corsage from Milford’s flower shop and a meal from Fireside Restaurant.

            District winners will go on to compete at the regional level.  Regional winners will be announced on March 18, 2011.  Of those, nine will be selected to compete in the state level competition.  Tennessee Teachers of the Year will be announced at the Tennessee School Boards Association annual conference in November 2011.
