R.A.M. Clinic Provides Over $300,000 In Free Care

 

            Oneida, TN (2011-01-25) Last weekend’s health clinic conducted by Remote Area Medical of Knoxville (R.A.M.) provided more than $300,000 in free medical, dental, and vision care to citizens of Scott, Morgan, Fentress and McCreary County.

            According to Ron Brewer, Director of R.A.M.’s Rural America Division, 758 persons were seen over the two day clinic held last weekend at the Boys and Girls Club of Scott County in Oneida.  Of those patients, eleven were children.  In all, 378 volunteers staffed the clinic, which provided a total of 827 services and procedures, including medical, dental, vision, and mammography.

            While the clinic provided a variety of health services, the expedition’s primary focus was dental care.  Approximately 50 dental providers from across the country supplied a total of 439 dental services, including 1,239 extractions, 172 fillings, 58 cleanings, and 31 examinations.

            Other services provided included:  16 vision examinations, 202 eye exams that resulted in the issuances of glasses, and the distribution of a 312 pairs of eyeglasses.  Doctors provided 155 general medical examinations, and 15 mammography tests were performed.

            The total value of care provided at the two-day event was estimated at $301,618.00.

            The next R.A.M. clinic will be held in Knoxville on February 5, 2011 and February 6, 2011.  The clinic will be held in the Jacob Building at Chilhowee Park, located at 3301 E Magnolia Avenue.  Dental, vision and medical services will be provided.
