Oneida Marching
Band Participates In Inaugural Parade
Nashville, TN (2011-01-17) The Pride of the Tribe
marching band participated in Saturday’s parade to commemorate the inauguration
of Governor Bill Haslam. The Oneida
band was one of only a few high school bands to join in the festivities.
On
Saturday, the Pride of the Tribe marching band braved the blustery weather on
the streets of Nashville
to commemorate the beginning of a new era in state government; the beginning of
Governor Haslam’s administration.
In
all 33 members of the Tribe made the trek to Nashville, staying overnight in the famed
Opryland Hotel. The Pride of the Tribe
was one of only twelve high school bands invited to participate in the
inaugural event, and one of only three from east Tennessee—the others being
Austin East and Roane County.
The
highlights of Saturday’s parade included a review by Governor Haslam, who, from the review platform, returned the salute
of Oneida Drum Major Tyler Duncan. The band
also received a round of applause from the Pride of the Southland Band from the
University of Tennessee for its rendition of the
Tribe’s fight song, “Rocky Top.”
After
resounding taking the Governor’s race in the November 2010 General Election, Haslam assumed his new role on Saturday afternoon, becoming
the 49th Governor of the State of Tennessee.
