On November 23rd, Officer Zachary Strunk, with the Oneida Police Department, was dispatched to Carson’s Tires in Oneida for a traffic accident. Upon arrival, Officer Strunk spoke with driver Valerie Botts who stated she was coming to a stop at the red light and was hit in the rear end. Officer Strunk then spoke with the driver of the other vehicle, identified as Jeffery Hughes, about what had happened. Officer Chad Jones was already speaking with Hughes and advised him that he could smell an odor of alcohol on his person. Hughes admitted to drinking two beers. Officer Jones then administered the field sobriety test on Hughes in which he failed. Hughes then admitted to drinking six beers and then admitted to drinking 12 beers. At that point, Officer Jones read Hughes the Implied Consent Form and Hughes agreed to a breath test. Hughes was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence. He was transported to the Scott County Justice Center for booking.
