On November 5th, Officer Chad Jones, with the Oneida Police Department, received a “be on the look out” for a black Chevy pickup with a deer head over the trailer hitch ball that had two males in it and just left Auto Zone and had allegedly stolen some items. Officer Jones witnessed the vehicle matching the description in the Wal-Mart parking lot and parked and waited for the males to return to it. An individual, identified as Brian Garrett, approached the passenger side of the vehicle he threw some type of package under a vehicle parked beside the truck he was in. Officer Jones approached the passenger side of the truck and asked Garrett what he just threw under the vehicle. Garrett handed over a red item that was later identified as a laser distance measurer. Officer Jones found several items in the front seat of the truck in which had been stolen from Pappy’s Peddlers Mall, Auto Zone, Tractor Supply, and Wal-Mart. Officer Zac Strunk, upon checking Garrett for weapons, found in his left front pants pocket an Accu-Check strip bottle containing to what was believed to be meth along with a cigarette filter and a clear straw in the bottle as well. Garrett stated he had two syringes on his person. Garrett was arrested and charged with Theft of Under $1,000, Possession of a Schedule II Drug, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was transported to the Scott County Justice Center for booking.
