Town of Oneida Mayor/Alderman Election

Town of Oneida voters have spoken.  By a vote of 526 to 384, Jack E. Lay has been returned to Oneida Mayor’s post, defeating his only challenger Denny Smith, by a margin of 142 votes.  There were six seeking office of Alderman, two newcomers, with one receiving the most votes of any candidate.  Toby Mays collected 568 votes, Mark Byrd received 559, Lori Phillips Jones’ total was 507, and Allison Mays 478.  Linda Lay lost her bid to return to the board of aldermen, receiving 465 votes, and newcomer Billy Hammock’s vote tally was 366.  Four of the highest vote getters make up the Alderman’s Board:  Toby Mays, Mark Byrd, Lori Phillips Jones, and Allison Mays.  The vote count is unofficial, subject to certification by the Scott County Election Commission.
