This yearly Halloween-season celebration is a favorite among village visitors, who enjoy a homemade chili dinner with dessert at the Historic Rugby Community Building, followed by candle and oil lamp tours of several historic building featuring the new Rugby Edged in Black exhibits.
During the tour, guests meet the “ghosts” of some of Rugby’s earliest residents and hear their stories, along with stories about the village’s numerous ghosts. This year’s event includes a look at the death and mourning customs of the Victorian era through the death of Margaret Hughes on October 5th, 1887. Hear funeral hymns and Appalachian dirges while residents mourn her passing. Learn how death affected the Victorians and how their customs still move us today. The event is followed by hot cider around a bonfire, with more spooky stories.
