Peggy Sue Latham Cecil, 87 of Winfield TN, passed away April 26, 2019. Born April 13, 1932 in Tyler Texas (a true “Yellow Rose of Texas”) she was the daughter of the late Alvin Carl “Chick” Latham and Rosie Pearl Shelton Latham. Peggy was a graduate of Corpus Christi Business School in 1952. Peggy was retired from the Southern Labor Union (SLU) where she worked as a Secretary; a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Oneida where she was active in youth programs as a Sunday School Teacher and the Vacation Bible School Program; a 25 year member of the Sapphire Chapter #259 of Oneida where she served as Worthy Matron 5 times in conjunction with her husband D.L.; Peggy was Mother Advisor for 10 years with Rainbow Girls in Oneida; as a member of the Order of Eastern Star she held roles as Grand Worthy Advisor, Chairperson of the Grand Committee for Youth, Grand Instructor for her district, Grand Representative to Mississippi where she was given Honorary Membership to Mississippi, and was a President to the Grand Representative Club in Knoxville; Peggy was active for many years with the Scott County Fair in the Floral arena. Peggy’s greatest accomplishment was the love of raising her five children. Followed by her love of her Grandchildren. Her unselfish acts were always to the benefit of her beloved family.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: LCDR (Retired US Navy) Durward Lindbergh “D.L.” Cecil; infant son F.S. Cecil; Grandson Tyler Manis. Sisters: Naomi Latham Luttrell and husband Orrie; Mary (Babe) Latham Warren and husband Steve. Special acknowledgment: Sister in-law Freda Cecil Rector; nephews Steven Luttrell and Steven Warren.
Peggy is survived by her children: Carol Cecil Powell Horrar husband Robert, Patricia Kathryn Cecil Manis husband Kreis, Diane Lyn Cecil Ball husband Aaron, Peggy Sue Cecil Sims husband Randy, Richard Lind Cecil wife Gail. Grandchildren: Christy Pennell Veal husband Jason, Wayne Powell wife Shayla, Kristen Crawley husband Rick, Leslie Miller husband Josh, Jessica Cecil, Kris Chambers wife Emily, Catherine Ball, Danielle Ball, Sebastian Cecil. Many young great grandchildren. Special mention: Peggy’s friends from church, Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls, bridge friends and new friends from the Westminester Community and Bristol Terrace, Nashville.
Funeral Service is May 2, 2019 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Oneida. Family will receive friends for visitation from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. Reverend Philip Kazee will officiate the service following visitation. Music will be performed by Vicky Taylor and Dallas West. Sue Perry will host the family hospitality room. Personal thank you to Sue Lamb for providing Peggy with transportation to Sunday Service for many years.
Burial Service will follow in the Cecil Cemetery in the Cherry Fork Community.
Pallbearers are Wayne Powell, Jason Veal, Kreis Manis, Josh Miller, Randy Sims and Robert Horrar.
