K9 Officer Toby Jeffers with the Oneida Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a green Nissan for an alleged registration violation. Upon the vehicle stopping, the driver kept reaching over into the passenger side. As Officer Jeffers exited his patrol unit, the driver of the Nissan, identified as John G. Chitwood attempted to step out of his vehicle. Officer Jeffers told Chitwood to sit back down and asked him what he was reaching for. Chitwood stated it was a beer but it wasn’t his. Officer Jeffers stepped to the passenger side and observed an open Bud Light can in the floor and removed the can from the vehicle. While removing the can, Officer Jeffers located a cigarette pack in the passenger seat. The pack contained a bag with meth. Chitwood first stated it wasn’t his then stated he was just scared to tell the truth. John Chitwood was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Schedule II Drug, Open Container, and Registration Violation. He was transported to the Scott County Justice Center for booking.
