Oneida, TN (2018-12-05) Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area has spent the past year engulfed in a year-long, park-wide event called GO BIG 2018 Challenge. This interactive activity has encouraged visitors to complete challenges and answer questions all while exploring and experiencing destinations within the boundary of the park.
Through the challenge, visitors had access to a free GO BIG 2018 Challenge booklet, and each question was worth a set number of points. Visitors were also challenged to hike, ride equestrian, mountain bike, and paddle our waterways for points. For those participants that earned 100 points, a special patch designed for this event was awarded. This year the GO BIG Challenge was fully accessible allowing ALL park visitors to participate and earn their patch.
On December 8, at 10:00 a.m. (ET), the challenge will wrap up with a culminating program at the Bandy Creek Visitor Center. Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area invites you to join us as we honor those who worked so hard and learned so much during their adventure. Enjoy the music of the Scott County High School Bluegrass Band, Junior Ranger holiday crafts, a slide show of photos shared during the challenge, and a ranger-led hike on Bandy Creek Loop after the award presentation.
All visitors who participated in the challenge and are present will be recognized for their accomplishments and be considered for an award in various categories. Awards will be given for “Most Points Earned Male and Female,” “Most Challenges Completed Male and Female,” “Most Hiking Points,” “Most Equestrian Points,” “Most Mountain Bike Points,” “Most Paddling Points,” “Largest Team or Group to Successfully Complete the Challenge,” and this year there will be a special “Youth Award”.
Those who are present during the event will get a copy of the new GO BIG 2019 Challenge booklet set to begin on January 1.
