Huntsville, TN (2018-11-28) With gusty winds and rain predicted for Saturday afternoon, the Scott County Chamber of Commerce has decided to move the annual Christmas parade to its designated rain date, Sunday, December 2, 2018.
Over the course of its 70-year history, the Scott County Christmas Parade has been delayed only a handful of times; however, Saturday’s rainy forecast has led parade organizers to act proactively and push back the parade until Sunday. “We held out hope that the weather forecast would improve, but little has changed in the forecast models for Saturday,” Stacey Swann, the Executive Director of the Scott County Chamber of Commerce said. Forecasters are calling for gusty winds in excess of 20 m.p.h. on Saturday afternoon, along with an 80% chance of rain.
The forecast is still calling for the potential of rain and light winds on Sunday. Weather permitting, the parade will step off at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The parade will begin at the HBD parking lot: turn left on Industrial Lane; and then left again onto Alberta Street (U.S. 27). The parade will follow Alberta Street north to traffic light #5, where it will turn right onto Claude Terry Drive. All entries will continue on to Oneida Elementary School, where the parade will disband in the parking lot.
Applications for entry into the parade are still being accepted. Forms may be picked up at the Scott County Chamber of Commerce office, 12025 Scott Highway, Huntsville. Deadline to enter is Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.
