Huntsville, TN (2018-10-26) A convicted sex offender living in Oneida that was wanted by federal authorities is facing new charges after he was reportedly found with two guns.
Ricky V. Lewallen, 39, of Oneida was jailed Thursday afternoon after authorities picked him up on an outstanding federal warrant for allegedly violating the conditions of the state’s sex offender registry law. According to a warrant filed by Deputy Joseph Byrge of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Lewallen had also allegedly failed to appear in court and had violated the conditions of his probation from Scott County General Sessions Court.
Byrge, along with Deputy Dusty Hayes, accompanied agents from the United States Marshal’s Service to a residence on Leatherwood Road Thursday afternoon looking for Lewallen. Authorities say that Lewallen opened the door and was arrested without incident. During a sweep of his home following the arrest, authorities say they found two firearms inside a closet in a back bedroom. Authorities reportedly recovered a .22 caliber long rifle, along with a .50-caliber muzzleloader from the residence.
As a convicted felon, Lewallen was prohibited from owning or possessing weapons.
Lewallen was convicted of aggravated sexual battery in June 2009. According to the offender registry, the crime was committed against a minor, and he was listed as a violent offender against children. While Lewallen was found just doors down from his registered address, the state had declared him absconded from the justice system because of his failure to report.
In addition to the outstanding charges associated with the federal warrant, Lewallen was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (two counts).
