Oneida, TN (2018-09-13) The Oneida City Council has appointed former District Attorney Lori Phillips-Jones to the fill the vacant seat on the board.
On Thursday evening, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen voted 3-0 with Alderperson Linda Lay absent to appoint Lori Phillips-Jones to the Oneida City Council. “We have a name that would really be beneficial to the board and this community,” Oneida Mayor Jack Lay said. Lay not only recommended Jones for the post, but also made the motion to appoint her.
Jones will fill the unexpired term of former alderman Jeff Tibbals, who resigned last month following his election to the office of County Mayor. While Jones isn’t the first woman elected or appointed to the City Council, she will make history by shifting the paradigm of the board, which for the first time will have majority female representation.
Jones isn’t new to the world of politics, having been the District Attorney General for the 8th Judicial District for two years (2012-2014), and a member of the Oneida Special School District Board of Education. She is also currently a member of the Board of Directors of United Cumberland Bank.
The next municipal election will be held in November 2019.
