Wartburg, TN (2018-09-15) Get out and explore YOUR Obed Wild and Scenic River! The Obed Wild and Scenic River will be conducting a healthy hike on Friday, September 21, at 11:00 a.m. (ET). Ranger Rick Ryan will lead a moderate 2.5 mile hike on the Lilly Bluff area trails which will include the Overlook Trail, the Bridge Trail and the Boulder Field Trail.
Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy the unique geology and ecosystem of the Clear Creek gorge from both above and below the rim. Along the way, the trail will include the scenic Lilly Bluff Overlook and Melton Mill Branch waterfall. A short descent below the rim of the gorge will lead under a large roof of sandstone along the Lilly Bluff Wall and on to the Lilly Boulder Field where hikers can enjoy a peaceful walk amongst a maze of massive sandstone boulders.
Participants should meet at the Lilly Overlook parking area. The parking area is located just after crossing the Lilly Bridge on Ridge Road in Morgan County, Tennessee. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes or boots and bring water and snacks. Hikers are also welcome to bring well-behaved dogs on a leash.
