Longtime Register of Deeds Honored

Huntsville, TN (2018-07-16) A dedicated public servant with nearly three decades of service to the people of Scott County was honored Monday night by the Scott County Commission on the eve of his retirement.

Register of Deeds Porter B. “Benjie” Rector, Jr., surrounded by his family, was commended for his years in office by the county legislative body at its regular monthly meeting on Monday. “It has truly been a blessing,” an emotional Rector said, citing his faith in God as his guiding principle. “I want to thank all the people of Scott County, and the people who have helped me over the years… thank you all,” he concluded.

Benjie served a stint in the US Army, completing a tour in Vietnam. He attended and graduated from the University of Tennessee of Knoxville.  Benjie was first elected Register of Deeds in 1990, and served seven consecutive terms in office. After much thought and prayer, Rector elected to retire, to spend time with his four sons Clay, Grant, Scott, and Seth, and his 14 grandchildren.
