Huntsville, TN (2018-04-23) After finding children living in a feces-infested house, local authorities have booked an Oneida couple on child neglect charges.
Harlen Lewallen, 41, and his wife, identified as Patsy L. Lewallen, 46, both of Oneida were booked into the Scott County Jail last week, after authorities say that they found the couple and their two young children living in deplorable conditions. According to an arrest warrant filed by Deputy Shane Blevins of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were called to the couple’s Williams Creek home by emergency medical services workers, who were conducting a welfare check on Mrs. Lewallen.
Authorities say the couple and their two children, ages 16 and 14, were living in filth and they had little food. Blevins noted in his report that the home was littered with some 12 bags of trash and whiskey bottles were strewn on the floor. “There were numerous piles of feces laying on the floor,” Blevins wrote. Authorities say the house didn’t have electricity, the sink was full of dirty dishes, and the toilet was overflowing with feces too.
At the time of Patsy Lewallen’s arrest, Mr. Lewallen and the two children were not at home, but were there earlier. Patsy Lewallen reportedly told authorities that the children were at school, but she was unclear of Mr. Lewallen’s whereabouts. While being booked at the jail, Mrs. Lewallen reportedly told authorities she hadn’t showered in nearly three months.
Harlen and Patsy Lewallen were each charged with non-violent child abuse and neglect.
