Oneida, TN (2018-03-16) Scheduled road work on Leatherwood Road (SR297) within the boundaries of the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area will led to minor delays next week.
Park officials warn of short term delays on Leatherwood Road, State Highway 297, between March 20, 2018 and March 22, 2018. During the period, engineers will be checking the roadway’s subsurface. Work will take place each day from approximately 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Eastern). Although the road will remain open, motorists should expect minimal traffic delays during these times.
Crews will be core drilling pavement sections to explore the subsurface along a 7.56 mile stretch of the roadway—all located within the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. This section of road is in the planning stages for design and rehabilitation of the pavement surface between the park’s east and west boundaries.
Work will be performed by a pavement engineer with a trailer-mounted core drill. When testing is complete, all locations will be backfilled to grade.
