Healthy Hike: Cumberland Trail – Emory River Gorge Section, March 10

Wartburg, TN (2018-03-06)  Get out and explore YOUR park!  The Obed Wild and Scenic River will be conducting a ranger-led healthy hike on Saturday, March 10, at 10:00 a.m. (ET).  Join Ranger Rick Ryan for a moderate out and back hike of 2.6 miles total along the Emory River Gorge section of the Cumberland Trail.  The trail begins at the historic Nemo Bridge and ascends through a peaceful understory of mountain laurel and rhododendron embraced by the sounds of water resonating off the canyon walls, culminating in a sweeping overlook above the confluence of the Obed and Emory Rivers.

Participants should meet at the Nemo picnic area.  The picnic area is located just before crossing Nemo Bridge on Catoosa Road in Morgan County, Tennessee.  Please wear weather appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes or boots, and bring water and snacks.  Hikers are also welcome to bring well-behaved dogs on a leash.  Participants should expect to spend two hours for this hike.  For more information, please contact the visitor center at (423) 346-6294.
