Wartburg, TN (2018-02-04) Get out and explore YOUR park. The Obed Wild and Scenic River will be conducting a trail run on Saturday, February 10, at 1 p.m. (ET). Rangers Rick Ryan and Veronica Greear welcome runners of all levels for this double loop trail run on the Cumberland Trail for a round-trip total of 2.25 miles. If you like to run with others and enjoy single-track trail running in a woodland setting, then this run is for you.
The trail run will include a loop on both sides of the Emory River with two crossings over the Historic Nemo Bridge. The first loop descends into Rock Creek Campground to follow the Nature Trail offering close up views of the transition from bluff to gorge, where massive sandstone boulders fell from the bluff thousands of years ago and now rest in the gorge. After re-crossing Nemo Bridge, the second loop follows the Cumberland Trail along the east side of the Emory River Gorge, eventually descending though a peaceful understory of mountain laurel and rhododendron embraced by the sounds of water resonating off the canyon walls.
Participants should meet at the Nemo Bridge picnic area at 1 p.m. The picnic area is located just before crossing Nemo Bridge on Catoosa Road in Morgan County, Tennessee. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. Participants should expect to spend one hour for this trail run.
