Oneida, N (2017-10-22) Fall is the best time of year to enjoy the many scenic overlooks on the Cumberland Plateau. Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area invites you to our next Healthy Hike to Station Camp Overlook on Saturday, October 28, at 10:00 a.m. (ET).
Join a ranger at the Gobblers Knob Trailhead for a moderate 6 mile hike. This overlook provides visitors with a nice view of Charit Creek Lodge, the oldest, standing, usable lodge in national parks. At the overlook, participants will go back in time when long hunters, trappers, and subsistence farmers inhabited the area as they listen to the stories of Charit Creek Lodge and the rich history that has been preserved for so many years. Enjoy the spectacular fall colors while earning 10+ points on the GO BIG 2017 challenge. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and bring water and snacks. Don’t forget to bring that well-behaved dog; however, leashes are required.
The GO BIG 2017 Challenge is a year-long park-wide event designed to motivate visitors to go out and explore their park. Participants will earn points by answering questions about the nature and history of the park that will require exploration in search of site-specific information. Some answers may even require a photo to be taken. Points will also be given for miles hiked, biked, paddled, or equestrian-ridden, so you can get started today!
