GO BIG 2017 Healthy Hike: Yahoo Falls Loop, August 27

Oneida, TN (2017-08-21)  Earn points towards your 2017 GO BIG patch by joining a park ranger on a one hour guided hike to one of Kentucky’s tallest waterfalls, Yahoo Falls.  The hike begins at 11:00 a.m. (ET) on August 27 at the Yahoo Falls parking area located on Yahoo Falls Road, off of Highway 700 near Whitley City, Kentucky.  Yahoo Falls is 113 feet tall and flows into the Big South Fork River.  Starting from the Yahoo Falls parking area, the trail descends a series of steps to actually pass behind the falls under one of the largest rock shelters in the area.  Looping around, it crosses the creek at the top of the falls where there are gorgeous views from the towering sandstone cliffs above the rock shelter.

This ranger-led hike is free of charge.  The trail is a 1.2 mile loop rated easy/moderate and does contain a long set of stairs.  Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear and bring plenty of water.  Everyone is welcome.  For more information or directions, please call the Blue Heron Interpretive Center at (606) 376-3787.
