Oneida, TN (2017-05-07) Get ready to “GO BIG” in 2017 as you challenge yourself to explore, experience, and connect with your national park! In support of the “GO BIG 2017” Challenge, Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area will be conducting a healthy hike along the Honey Creek Loop trail on Saturday, May 13, at 9:00 a.m. (ET). Join a ranger at the Honey Creek Loop Trail Head parking lot for a strenuous 5.7 mile hike.
Honey Creek Loop holds some of Big South Fork’s most rugged terrain, and it will take your breath away with its beauty. Enjoy large magnificent rock formations, refreshing waterfalls, and the unique feeling of being engulfed by the forest. You will be using your hands and knees to maneuver through parts of this trail as it meanders through the creek, so you may get wet. Bring water, snacks, lunch, and wear appropriate shoes and clothing for a safe and comfortable adventure!
The GO BIG 2017 Challenge is a year-long park-wide event designed to motivate visitors to go out and explore their park. Participants will earn points by answering questions about the nature and history of the park that will require exploration in search of site-specific information. Some answers may even require a photo to be taken. Points will also be given for miles hiked, biked, paddled, or equestrian-ridden so you can get started today!
