Oneida, TN (2017-03-20) A verbal argument between an Oneida couple reportedly turned violent Sunday night, resulting in the man allegedly attacking his son and attempting to stab him.
James Daniel Cooper, 38, of Oneida was arrested Sunday night by the Scott County Sheriff’s Department following an alleged domestic dispute between Cooper and his spouse. According to a report filed by Deputy Keith Hawkins of the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Cooper allegedly pulled a knife on his son, after he reportedly intervened in an argument between Cooper and his mother. The Coopers had reportedly been arguing, and the victim was attempting to leave the residence when Cooper allegedly took her keys and prevented her from leaving. As the argument escalated, the younger Cooper intervened. Cooper is accused of punching his son in the face at least twice, before brandishing a knife and attempting to stab him. After failing to make contact with the young victim, Cooper allegedly threw the knife at him.
After throwing the knife, Cooper is further accused of climbing onto the hood of his wife’s truck, and jumping on the hood and windshield. Ultimately, authorities say Cooper smashed the windshield of the pickup.
Authorities had reportedly responded to the couple’s Choate Lane home earlier in the night on another domestic disturbance call. The victims say Cooper was intoxicated.
Cooper was charged with aggravated assault, child abuse and neglect, and false imprisonment. He’s currently being held in the Scott County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
