In celebration of World Water Day, a park ranger from the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area will read children’s books about protecting rivers and streams on March 25 at the McCreary County Public Library. Story time will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by an arts and crafts project.
The River and Recreation Area was designated in part to protect portions of the watershed basin of the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River and several of its tributaries. Today, Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area encompasses approximately 15 percent of the 1,382 square mile drainage area of the river. For more information about our watershed, go to https://www.nps.gov/biso/learn/nature/rivers.htm.
