Huntsville, TN (2015-12-07) Four people have applied for the position of Finance Director of Scott County. The Scott County Finance Committee will interview applicants at its next regular meeting.
The Scott County Finance Committee convened Monday night for the sole purpose of putting to record the names of the applicants who applied for the position of Finance Director. According to Committee Chairman Mike Slaven, a total of five people applied for the position; however, one application was received on Monday, three days following the December 4, 2015 application deadline.
While the committee voted 6-0 with member Bill Hall absent to put the names of the other four applicants to record, Slaven neglected to read aloud those applicant’s names.
WBNT has learned through a request for information that one current employee, and three other Scott County residents have applied for the post.
Interim Director Mary Ginger Reynolds, who has been the Deputy Finance Director since 2010, is one of the four applicants. Reynolds has performed most, if not all, functions associated with the finance office during her tenure. Prior to working for the county, Reynolds held several private sector accounting jobs, including working for three local manufacturers.
Gary G. Cruz is a soon-to-be retired Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army, having most recently been a Senior Financial Advisor in the U.S. Army Finance Corp. Cruz recently relocated to Oneida, where his wife was born and raised. Cruz has an extensive history in military finance having served in the U.S. Army for 32 years. During his career he served both in the states (Fort Hood, TX and Schofield Barracks, HI) and abroad in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Timothy Earl Hicks of Oneida is currently a purchasing manager and IT coordinator for Armstrong Flooring in Somerset, KY. Hicks, who holds a degree in accounting, has been an Armstrong employee since 1997.
Daniel Storey of Robbins has been comptroller for Ayers Real Estate in Lafollette since 1998. Prior to working at Ayers Real Estate, Storey worked for Campbell County Accounting Services.
Reynolds, Hicks and Storey all hold B.S. degrees in accounting from Tennessee Tech University, while Cruz has a degree in business from Trident University.
At least two of the applicants have family ties with members of the Finance Committee. At its last meeting, Road Superintendent Donald (Dick) Sexton, who is a statutory member of the committee, disclosed that Reynolds was his niece. While Chairman Slaven didn’t mention anything about it Monday night, Cruz is reportedly his brother-in-law.
The committee will interview each of the applicants at its next regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, December 14, 2015.
